The Herbarium of Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu is being maintained by the department of Botany with an acronym ‘SKU’ is recognized by Index Herbariorum, a global directory of herbaria of world, at New York Botanical Garden. Started full-fledged in 1985 is currently harboring 45,400+ specimens, it is largest in Andhra Pradesh and the second largest in South Indian Universities. Current Arrangement of specimens follows APG Classification (APG IV, 2016). All the specimens represent to about 4000 species, 1500 genera and 175 families.
Sixteen new species discovered by the faculty of the department and represented in the herbarium as Type specimens including Dipcadi krishnadevarayae BRP Rao, named after the Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya. Apart from these, 20 more type specimens are housed in the SKU.
