Central Library

The University Library is a central facility which provides information support for Teaching, Learning and Research activities of the University. The Library was established in the year 1968 with a total collection of ‘1411’ books covering ‘5’ subjects. The library was shifted to independent premises in the ground floor of the present library buildings in 1976. Later, in 1981 the ‘Post Graduate Centre’ library has been transformed as ‘University Central Library’ with a total collection of ‘32595’ Books. Today, the University Library collection has risen to ‘1,87,285’ Books, ‘15612’ Back Volume Journals, and the total library collection is 2,02,897.

The university library is providing service to the student user community to support the educational, research and extension programmes of the ‘Sri Krishnadevaraya University’. At present the University Library is functioning with Fifteen (15) Sections along with Five (05) reading halls. The seating capacity of the university central library is 300, spreading in five reading halls. The plinth area of the library building is about3, 300 Sq.meters (Ground floor: 1,650Sq.metersand First Floor: 1,650Sq.meters). In view of development in information technology, the ‘INFLIBNET’ section has executed ‘Library Automation, Plagiarism checking and Thesis digitization activities in the university library. The university library is executing bibliographical data entry work with SOUL software for library automation activity,as on today ‘84,835’Books data entered into SOUL database.

The university library has digitized 3,212 University Theses during the period 2016 - 2019 and uploaded to Shodhganga repository,now; 3,592 university Theses are available at Shodhganga repository. Further, the university library is receiving 13,000 + e-journals access under Inflibnet–ONOS programmethrough the university campus internet LAN.

Physical and Special Features of the University Library


  • Floor Plans, Sign boards Fire preventive kits and Fire alarm provided.
  • ‘Ramp, Web browsing access and Lift facility for First Floor’ have been provided to the physically challenged students.
  • Open access assistance to the library resources has been provided to the differently abled users.
  • On an average 300-350 Students have been utilizing the library services every day.

University Central Library Resources & Services


  1. Shodhganga (Digital Theses Repository):
  2. Shodhganga is a digital repository of Indian ‘Electronic Theses and Dissertations’ setup by the UGC-INFLIBNET. The UGC through the Inflibnet has sanctioned first phase financial assistance for ‘digitization of Theses’ submitted to the university for Shodhganga Project. Later, the university library is received grants under RUSA for ‘digitization of Theses’ in second phase. The university library is executed the digitization of Ph.D Theses of the university under ‘UGC-Shodhganga’ project. The theses digitization work has been completed in the university library in 2019.

    The university library has uploaded '3212' digitized Theses to the Shodhganga repository during the period 2016-2019. ‘Sri Krishnadevaraya University' has placed among the ‘Top Ten universities category’ in digitization of Theses under UGC-Shodhganga project between the period 2016 to 2019. Sri Krishnadevaraya University is uploaded total '3592 Theses’ to the Shodhganga repository as on today. The university digital theses are accessible through the site ‘https://www.shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in’.

  3. Shodh Sindhu ONOS e-resources:
  4. The Government of India has taken initiation to provide access to scholarly research content (e.journals and databases) to the Universities in the country under "One Nation One Subscription (ONOS)" programme through the INFLIBNET.The INFLIBNET (UGC-IUC) is providing e-journals access to the university under ONOSprogramme to the university academic community. The university library is received 13,000 + e-journals access in all subjects under Inflibnet–ONOSprogrammethrough the university campus IP LAN. The university library is also receiving NDL andother Databases access under ShodhSindhuprogramme.The university ONOS journals are accessible through the site ‘https://www.onos.gov.in/publishers’.

  5. Shodh Shuddhi Plagiarism:
  6. The university library has established plagiarism checking activity with Drill-bit software (previously Ouriginal software) under ‘Inflibnet-ShodhShuddhi’ programme. Theuniversity library is conducting plagiarism check activity of Ph.D Thesis and issuing certification to the Research Scholar for submission of Ph.D Thesis to the university.

  7. Library Automation:
  8. The UGC through INFLIBNET has provided grants for Library Automation programme. The Library Automation activity with ‘INFLIBNET-SOUL (Software for University Libraries)’ software is under progress in the university library. At present ‘84,835’ books cataloguing information data has been uploaded in to Soul database. The university library will establish ‘Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)’ facility and automated book transaction service facility with the support of the university soon.

  9. Web Resource Centre:
  10. The university library has established a hygienic ‘Web Resource Centre’ in the library with ‘22’ computer systems in 2008 to strength research activity in the university by providing online connectivity to wide range resources. Further, a separate web resource centre has been established at ground floor with ‘08’ computer systems for ‘Physically Challenged Students’ in 2011.

  11. Reference Books:
  12. The University Library is established a very rich collection of Reference Book section. All types of Reference books like...Encyclopedias(General and Subject), Dictionaries (General and Subject), Gazetteers, Manuals, Handbooks, Year Books, Atlases,etc, are available in the Reference Section. A very rich collection of epic books, puranaas, and literary reviews are maintained in the Reference Section. In addition to this, huge number of Ph.D Theses is maintained in the Reference Section for Research and academic activities.

    The total Reference Book collection of Sri Krishnadevaraya University is ‘9650’, which have procured and maintained its uniqueness of variety of collection in all areas of Reference Knowledge by following the tradition from ‘Sri Venkateswara University’.

  13. Competitive Exam Cell:
  14. Sri Krishnadevaraya University Library is established a well recognised 'Competitive Book Section' with huge collection competitive books by maintaining its uniqueness among the universities in Andhra Pradesh state. The competitive examsection is established for the preparation of competitive exams in the interest of the University Students. The present collection of Competitive Examination books in the section is 4600, which covers all competitive recruitment examinations for the highest successful satisfaction of the university students.The section is providing service from ‘8.00 am to 8.00 pm’ on all working days and ‘10.30 am to 5.00 pm’ on all holidays to the university students.

  15. SC/ST/BC Book Bank:
  16. Sri Krishnadevaraya University Library is established ‘SC/ST/BC Book Bank' with a collection of ‘4200’books covering the all the academic departments.The books for ‘SC/ST/BC Book Section’ have been procured through the ‘Social Welfare Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh’ for the benefit of ‘SC/ST/BC Students'.The section is issuing books to the ‘SC/ST/BC Students' in addition to general academic books by maintaining its uniqueness among the universities in Andhra Pradesh state.

  17. Book Collection Growth:
  18. The university library has procured ‘76809’ new Books and ‘1364’ volumes of new print Journals during the period from 2010 to 2024. At present,the university library collection has risen to ‘1,87,285Books’ and ‘15,612 Back Volume Journals’, and the total university library collection is‘2,02,897’.
