Major Research Projects/Collaborations/Distinctions
In addition to research in the above mentioned areas, the faculty are engaged in the pursuit of major and minor research projects worth Rs. 4.50 crores. One of the major projects sanctioned by ISRO is related to Studies on Air-Space Pollution. It is an inter-departmental project. The Department of Mathematics has entered into a memorandum of Agreement with Lukov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute, Minsk, Belarus, for joint research, mutual collaboration on professional development programmes for the period from 2000 to 2005.
The Department has linkages with the Industry in two major projects entitled, "Enhanced Oil Recovery in Petroleum Industry" and " Air-Space Pollutants and Environment". In the department of Social Sciences research is actively linked up with outreach activities, which enable the social scientist to acquire knowledge of grass-roots realities in rural development.
The department of Physics is engaged in designing equipment and inter-facing measuring instruments with micro- processors. The Herbarium of the Department of Botany is an internationally recognized one. It is one of the 52 herbaria in India which is given the acronym S.K.U. It has a collection of more than 25,000 specimen. The Biochemistry Department has entered into a collaboration agreement with the Wellcome Trust, UK for promoting bilateral academic research.
The collaboration involves exchange visits from both sides to enhance the quality of research and infrastructure acquisition by the department of Biochemistry. Under the programme, FIST (Fund for Improving Science and Technology infrastructure), the departments of Biochemistry and Botany have been sanctioned Rs. 47 lakhs and Rs. 32 lakhs respectively for infrastructure development by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
The University held a number of national and international conferences and seminars in the Departments of Physics, Mathematics, English, History, Economics and so on. There is also an Art and Archaeology Museum sanctioned by the University Grants Commission and attached to the Department of History.
