Brief History of the Department :
The Department of Statistics was started in the year 1981 with the collaboration of Department of Mathematics and got independent status in the year 1989. At present the faculty consists of 2 Professors, 3 Associate Professors. The department conducts M.Sc., course in Statistics and research leading to M.Phil / Ph.D., degrees in the fields of Stochastic Process, Operations Research, Reliability, Statistical Quality Control, Probability theory and Econometric methods. The department is also actively engaged in inter-disciplinary work concerning the teaching of Statistical methods to other departments like Bio-Chemistry, Micro-biology, Zoology, M.B.A., and Computer Science. It is also imparting computational know-how and data analysis of several research projects of other departments of the University and other institutions located in Anantapur town. The faculty members are actively engaged in research to suit the recent trends.
Admission into various courses like M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D., in the department of Statistics are done through a screening test conducted by the University. The question paper pattern is so designed which suits to the latest trend to extract the subject knowledge of the student and also on par with the recommendations of the standing committee of the Academic Senate of S.K.University. A project work is introduced in M.Sc., final year course with the aim of applying theoretical knowledge acquired in the class room to the practical problems arising in day to day life in the society around us. Weekly Seminars for both Previous and Final year students along with the faculty members are included in the regular time table for getting general feed back from the students. This is being practiced since 1990.
