Brief History of the Department :
The Department of Rural Development was established in 1977 by the then Sri venkateswara University Autonomous Post Graduate centre, Anantapur. This post-graduate course has the distinction of being the first of its kind in India. The Department has been offering courses allied to Rural Development Sociology (M.A) course was offered since 1981-82 till the formation of Department of Sociology in 1985. Master of Social Work (M.S.W) course was introduced in 1990-91.
The Mission of the Department is to foster and sustain academic, research and extension programmes to promote the quality and strength or Rural Development professionals with the final object of improving the quality of rural life in India.
