Brief History of the Department :
The Department of Political Science was started in the Academic year1984-1985 in Sri Krishnadevaraya University campus to benefit the graduates of Political Science in Rayalaseema region in general and Ananthapuramu and Kurnool districts in particular. Initially, MA Political Science was started with an intake of 25 students. Later on, in the year 1994-1995 MA Public Administration course was started with an intake of 20 students. In addition to this in each course 10 seats are filled with payment category. The above said MA Courses are under the CBCS mode. Apart from regular Post Graduation courses, the department is also offering Research programs like M.Phil. PhD (Full-Time / Part-Time) (NRI/ Industrial / Executive Quota for those who are in-service). The department is guiding the students for various competitive examinations. A good number of students and scholars have been awarded Post-Doctoral Fellowships by the esteemed institutions like UGC, ICSSR (New Delhi) . The department has produced a good number of MPhil / PhD Degrees. The department has organised National Seminars, and also under taken and completed some Minor and Major Research Projects funded by UGC and ICSSR. The students of our department have extensively participated in various social act ivies which are most beneficial to the society. Two Gold Medals are instituted on the name of “ Idukallu Sadasivan “ and “ Sri Neelam Rajasekhar Reddy “ who are important personalities of the district. These Medals are given to the students who secured first rank in M A Political Science and M A Public Administration respectively. Another memorial prize instituted on the name of Dr. R. S.Murthy who ever secured first rank in M A Political Science is given this prize. At present there are three faculty members are there in department.
